Vintage photos of Crucible Mine and the Crucible Ferry!!!

Just got these from my good bud,Ed Begovich (long time SWPARE supporter!)More treasures from the Begovich archive! These beatuiful shots of the Crucible Mine and ferryboat Nekoda were taken by his Grandpap Frank Begovich.I estimate these from the mid to late 1940's judging from the cars.Ed says he has more on the way,so keep checking back!!
One bummer, though.Ed's Dad actually witnessed the scrapping of the Nekoda (and may have pics to prove it)So.looks like I'll need to find a new mystery!! Oh,well...enjoy these awesome pics....more soon.Thanks,Ed...again!!

  1. Where could I find more information about Crucible, Pa ? I'm interested in the workers/families circa 1922 - 1930

    1. The Yarish family were our neighbors across the alley, one house up. The youngest, Bobby, was my childhood playmate. He was 2 or 3_years younger. I taught him how to dance when he was in high school. Unfortunately he was killed in an automobile accident in 1960 or 1961 after I had left the area. My parents didn't drive and you Grandfather would take us to church. My name is Martha (Stypula)Yandura. If you're interested in the area and are on Facebook, try Carmichaels Area Historical Society's page. They have a lot of info on Crucible too...it's just a few miles away from there. If you have anything you would like to ask feel Message me on Facebook. It been a long time, but I occasionally think of Bobby and wonder what would have been.

  4. My grandfather was a coal miner. My cousin was a coal miner...I'm proud of it! My grandfather mined in Crucible. We were 1-3 times a year visitors, from LI NY...My fondest growing up memories come from those visits. (1950's through 60's and early 70's when my grandmother moved to Cleveland with my aunt I'd give my eye teeth for her kitchen wood/coal burning kitchen stove)
