The 85 Flood. Greene County PA
The interesting thing about the flood of 1985 was not only the flood itself,but the fact that the pool (normal level of the river) was lowered to facilitate removal of the runaway bardges that got stuck in the dams.We got to see what the Monongahela would look like if it were not dammed up.In the upper right photo,the original Lock 6 gate can be seen resting in the mud.
These are a mix of prints and scanned 35mm slides from my Dads collection.He worked for the Army Corps of Engineers for 41 years.Needless to say,we didnt see much of Dad in late Nov early Dec 1985!More pix to come...
